We all love to think of Jesus as the compassionate shepherd, healer, and friend. And then there are gospel stories like the one we get today (never mind the story we get next Sunday!) that give us a more challenging image of our Lord. Maybe Jesus just always likes to keep us off guard. Or maybe he wants us to rethink what compassion actually looks like.
