We offer a number of opportunities for people to gather in small groups throughout the week for friendship, growth in faith, and service.
Next Meeting: Wednesday, January 29 @ 7:15 pm—The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce
Many of our members enjoy reading and discussing books with Christian themes. They choose one book a month to read and meet monthly at various members’ homes for discussion and fellowship. The complete list of books they’ve read is available here.
Next Movie: Sunday, February 9 @ 4 pm – The Story of Ruth
All are welcome to join us for our occasional movie nights. We watch a movie at someone’s home, and then discuss it over a potluck dinner. Interesting conversation always ensues.
Woodworking and Crafters Group
The Woodworking and Crafters group meets every week on Tuesday evening to roll up their sleeves and get creative. The focus of their activity is on creating faith chests (beautiful hand-made yellow cedar boxes which are filled with gift items and given to every person who is baptized at Good Shepherd).
But they also make crosses which are given to Sunday visitors, and take on other special projects like banners, and liturgical art.
No woodworking experience is required to join the group and there are a variety of tasks that any member of the group can take up on any given evening.
Good Shepherd Women (GSW)
The GSW is a Christ-centered community of women who are committed to enjoying fellowship, nurturing faith and spiritual strength, and serving our congregation, the neighborhood, and the world. At Good Shepherd the GSW is organized into two “circles.” Circles gather monthly for Bible study, mutual support, and various activities such as:
- a walking Group
- baling supplies for shipment overseas through Canadian Lutheran World Relief
- organizing women’s outings
- baking or preparing meals for the sick and shut-ins
- serving at funerals
- supporting various charities
- sponsoring an annual Praise Appeal Service
The GSW also host Congregational banquets and perform other acts of service in the community as well as gathering with women across Canada for retreats and inspirational gatherings.
At various times throughout the year we gather all those who enjoy singing together into a choir. They prepare pieces to perform at selected services such as Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter etc. The choir is open to all ages and performs a wide repertoire.
