Mission is a word we’re familiar with as Christians. We use it a lot. And we may have heard (and even believe) that every Christian is called to be a missionary in their own way. So, Holy Trinity Sunday. The only special day in the church calendar that celebrates a theological doctrine. God as one and yet three, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Maybe makes us wonder if those who made up the calendar were just trying to keep seminary professors happy. Or maybe there’s more to this Holy Trinity talk than meets the eye, or the ear. “Give peace a chance.” That anthemic protest chant of the late 60’s might be the cry of our hearts these days with the multiple crises and conflicts stressing our world. Happy Mother’s Day to all deserving moms! This is also Good Shepherd Sunday. No real connection there other than the fact that shepherds are usually symbols of motherly comfort.
