Vacation Bible School 2024

Together with our partners at St. Laurence Anglican Church we are again offering Vacation Bible School this summer mornings from August 12 – 16. Our program is called “Heroes Hotline”.

Kids (called Heroes) will explore stories of Bible heroes from the Old and New Testament, discovering how we too can answer God’s call to be everyday heroes by working for peace, building each other up, and sharing God’s love with others and with the world. Through music, drama and storytelling, games, science, arts and crafts, and even snacks, we’ll learn how Heroes are called to Follow Jesus, Help Others, Work Together, Listen to God, and Show Grace!

We welcome all kids from age 4 to 11. Please register early here, or by clicking the button below:

And if you are interested in volunteering for the week please don’t hesitate to contact the church office.

Sip with the Spirit

Join us on Wednesday, July 31 at Tinhouse Brewing in Port Coquitlam for an evening of fellowship and faith conversation . We’ll gather around 7 pm, grab a beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) and chat. This is not a Bible study, but an opportunity to explore faith topics and questions and their connection to contemporary life.

Vacation Bible School 2023

Good Shepherd and St. Laurence Anglican churches are teaming up again this summer to offer another Vacation Bible School! This years theme: Babylon! For five mornings from July 10-14, kids ages 4-11 will be invited to journey back in time, experience a taste of the ancient world, and join with the Biblical character of Daniel as he lived out a courageous faith.

As usual the kids will enjoy a full schedule of music, snacks, games, crafts, storytelling, and friend-making as we explore how God prepares us to live with courage, compassion and faith.

Folk Fiesta

Just a friendly reminder that the church’s Folk Fiesta fundraiser is this Friday. This is a fundraiser for the summer trip to CLAY for our IgnYte youth group. The suggested donation is $10 for children and $15 for adults. Some of our friends from St. Laurence Anglican will also be joining us.

It starts at 6 o’clock and lasts until 8 o’clock. Dinner will consist of “deconstructed nachos”, along with a few sides. Then Jason Wood and Friends will perform for us after that.

We hope to see you there to support our young people while enjoying an evening of food, conversation, and folk music.

Holy Week Services

Join us for all or any of the following services during Holy Week as we journey through the story of Christ’s Passion to the glory of Easter Sunday:

  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday – We gather at noon at church for a half hour Matins service. These services will be in-person only.
  • Maundy Thursday – We gather at 6 pm for a simple meal of soup and bread followed at 7 pm for a Maundy Thursday worship service. Click here for the bulletin.
  • Good Friday – We gather at 10:30 am for a Tennebrae Service (which centers around the gradual extinguishing of candles with a reading of the Passion). Click here for the bulletin.
  • Easter Sunday – All are invited to come for self-service breakfast at 8:30 am, including some creative communal artistic expression for all ages, followed at 10:30 am by an Easter celebration service.

We hope you will be able to celebrate and worship with us. All are welcome.

The Night Circus – Special Event

Mark your calendars!

We at Good Shepherd invite you to a special event on February 19 at 7:00 pm for an evening of enchanting harp music. Admission will be by donation with the proceeds going to 3030 Gordon and Tri-Cities Homelessness Shelter.

The event is a harp concert featuring Bess Lu, a Vancouver-based harpist who has performed with the renowned Winter Harp ensemble. She’ll be performing a program she has created and which includes her own composition called “The Night Circus” accompanied by her husband Rob Muir as narrator for the poetry.

If you are unable to join us in person you can watch the event through our live-stream by clicking here. In that case, we encourage you to make an online donation to the 3030 Gordon Tri-Cities homeless shelter by clicking here and choosing “3030 Gordon Shelter and Housing” from the drop down menu in the “Additional Information” field.

We are hosting Vacation Bible School once again this summer in partnership with our friends at St. Laurence Anglican Church. Hear stories about Jesus, make cool crafts, sing great songs, play fun games, eat super snacks and make lots of new friends as we zoom to Mars and beyond!

It will take place from August 16-18 from 9:00 to 12 noon at Good Shepherd. Registration is open for children age 4 to 12 by clicking here.

For further information or any question call 604-220-5450 or email goodshepherd@telus.net. Hope to see you there!

Tree Wrapping – July 9

All are invited to a community event in our yard on July 9 from 1-3 pm. We will be joined by environmental artist Sylvie Roussels-Janssens who will be working with those in attendance to create colourful and creative tree warps for trees in our mini-forest, adding some beauty to our community.

There will be a couple of other artistic activities to join as well as music by the folk band “Beyond Flannel,” ice cream snacks, and an opportunity to meet neighbours. Everything is free and open to all ages. We hope you’ll join us. Please call or email the office with any questions.

Five trees with colorful wraps around the trunks.

GSLC Garage Sale

Hello everyone, this is just a reminder that tomorrow we will be hosting our Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Garage Sale! It will be taking place from 9 am to 3 pm tomorrow, May 28.

Campfire Night – CANCELLED

UPDATE: The smoke has rolled in, and the air quality is dangerously bad right now. So, the campfire event tonight is cancelled. It would not be good to sit around in the smoke. I was really looking forward to spending time with everyone. Maybe we can try again in September – stay tuned. In the meantime, stay cool and stay safe!
