We are an intergenerational church community that values highly the presence of children in our midst. Every Sunday during the service kids are invited to come forward for a Children’s Time with the pastor. Children are also welcome to receive Holy Communion with the rest of the congregation. During the middle portion of the service the kids are welcome to attend a bi-weekly Sunday School.
Sunday School
We offer a Sunday School for all kids from preschool (age 3) to grade 6 which meets every other Sunday morning during the service (please consult the church calendar for the dates). A typical Sunday School session includes some interactive Bible learning and craft making. Sunday School resumes on Sunday, September 15, 2024.
Family Nights
Every couple of months we offer an event on Saturday afternoon called “Family Night”. We gather for some warm-up games, enjoy an interactive Bible teaching, make a craft together, celebrate a family-friendly Holy Communion, and eat dinner and hang out together. It’s a wonderful way for families to connect and enjoy a church experience in a relaxed and playful atmosphere. This is a ministry we share with Saint Laurence Anglican Church in Coquitlam and these evenings are held at their location at 825 St. Laurence Street in Coquitlam.
Christmas Pageant
Another wonderful collaboration we enjoy with St. Laurence Anglican Church is a joint Christmas pageant our kids perform every year on a Sunday morning close to Christmas. It is often a multigenerational production that includes adults and youth but in which children take center stage and telling the story of the nativity.
Vacation Bible School
For one week every summer we partner with St. Laurence Anglican Church to offer a daily program of fun and learning known as Vacation Bible School. Every morning during this week kids from the congregation and the neighbourhood gather at Good Shepherd to sing, make crafts, enjoy drama, eat, play games, and learn about the Bible as they travel through a series of interactive stations. It’s always a high-energy time of fun and friendship that helps the kids to explore in an engaging way the Bible’s message of God’s unconditional love for them and all the world. Watch for updates on our website about the program for the upcoming summer.
This year’s VBS program – “Hero Hotline” – was held in August with much fun, learning, and joy had by all!
