Today we hear the second story of Christ’s birth in the Bible. Second, less well known, but no less powerful. It’s a story that gives Joseph, Jesus’s earthly father, center stage. And in so doing brings out a dimension of the Christmas gospel that can sometimes get upstaged by Luke’s shepherds and angels and manger scene. But it’s a dimension that brims with hope for all who take the time to listen.
