Idols are kind of a big deal in the Bible. God doesn’t like them. And so the first commandment warns us against them. But that doesn’t stop us as humans from finding them and using them in our search for love, life, and belonging. So thank goodness today that we celebrate a baptism. For nothing breaks the grip of an idol on our life more powerfully than the word and the water of the font. Come, see, remember, and be freed.
