Vacation Bible School 2023

Good Shepherd and St. Laurence Anglican churches are teaming up again this summer to offer another Vacation Bible School! This years theme: Babylon! For five mornings from July 10-14, kids ages 4-11 will be invited to journey back in time, experience a taste of the ancient world, and join with the Biblical character of Daniel as he lived out a courageous faith.

As usual the kids will enjoy a full schedule of music, snacks, games, crafts, storytelling, and friend-making as we explore how God prepares us to live with courage, compassion and faith.

Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Jesus with a sword. Now there’s an image you don’t see on too many needlepoint wall hangings. But thats our gospel today. That, and some disconcerting talk about death and baptism. And somewhere in the mix is good news. Maybe today is an especially good day to listen closely.

Today’s worship service will be live-streamed on our YouTube channel at 10:30 am. Join us live, or watch the video here at a later time.

Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

We all love to think of Jesus as the compassionate shepherd, healer, and friend. And then there are gospel stories like the one we get today (never mind the story we get next Sunday!) that give us a more challenging image of our Lord. Maybe Jesus just always likes to keep us off guard. Or maybe he wants us to rethink what compassion actually looks like.

Today’s worship service will be live-streamed on our YouTube channel at 10:30 am. Join us live, or watch the video here at a later time.

Folk Fiesta

Just a friendly reminder that the church’s Folk Fiesta fundraiser is this Friday. This is a fundraiser for the summer trip to CLAY for our IgnYte youth group. The suggested donation is $10 for children and $15 for adults. Some of our friends from St. Laurence Anglican will also be joining us.

It starts at 6 o’clock and lasts until 8 o’clock. Dinner will consist of “deconstructed nachos”, along with a few sides. Then Jason Wood and Friends will perform for us after that.

We hope to see you there to support our young people while enjoying an evening of food, conversation, and folk music.

Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Purity has its place. We like to make sure our drinking water is pure. We enjoy the sound of pure audio. We love the taste of pure Orange Juice. But in the Christian life? Well, thats where our penchant for purity can become problematic. As some confused pharisees discover to their chagrin in our gospel this morning. And some others in desperate straits discover to their joy.

Today’s worship service will be live-streamed on our YouTube channel at 10:30 am. Join us live, or watch the video here at a later time.

Holy Trinity

Today we celebrate the Holy Trinity. With the emphasis on celebration. Because comprehending it isn’t really an option. Although, it does have something to teach us. Yes, about God. But also about us. And what it means to live together with everything and everyone God has made.

Today’s worship service will be live-streamed on our YouTube channel at 10:30 am. Join us live, or watch the video here at a later time.

Pentecost

Pentecost Sunday. The birthday of the church. The gift of the Holy Spirit. A celebration of diversity. The day God lit a fire under the butts (OK, over the heads) of the disciples. The perfect day to put the youth in charge! And so we celebrate with our IngYte youth ministry today and look ahead to what the Spirit has in store for the future of the church.

Today’s worship service will be live-streamed on our YouTube channel at 10:30 am. Join us live, or watch the video here at a later time.

Ascension of Our Lord

This Sunday is the last Sunday of the Easter season. We are celebrating the feast of the ascension of our Lord. A good subtitle for this day might be “Up, up, but not away!” The first disciples might have thought otherwise, if not for those two men (angels?) in white robes. And their sermon is one we still need to hear.

Today’s worship service will be live-streamed on our YouTube channel at 10:30 am. Join us live, or watch the video here at a later time.

Sixth Sunday in Easter

As we make the transition from the season of Easter to Pentecost Sunday we hear today the first hints of Jesus’s promise of the Holy Spirit. But there’s no tongues of flame or loud rushing winds here. Quite the opposite. Just an advocate who comes alongside us with hardly a sound at all. And yet, perhaps these words about the Spirit are among the most powerful we could ever want to hear. Join us as we listen in to Jesus trying to comfort his soon to be orphaned disciples (and us).

Today’s worship service will be live-streamed on our YouTube channel at 10:30 am. Join us live, or watch the video here at a later time.

Fifth Sunday of Easter

“I am the way, and the truth, and the life.” If there was a list of Jesus’s greatest hits, this verse would certainly be on it. It’s one of those statements that tugs at our spirits on such a deep level. And yet the disciples, like us, struggle to fully grasp it. And so we return with Jesus today to that upper room on that night in which he was betrayed. And there to try, once again, to plumb the depths of this hauntingly good news.

Today’s worship service will be live-streamed on our YouTube channel at 10:30 am. Join us live, or watch the video here at a later time.
