Ascension of Our Lord

This Sunday is the last Sunday of the Easter season. We are celebrating the feast of the ascension of our Lord. A good subtitle for this day might be “Up, up, but not away!” The first disciples might have thought otherwise, if not for those two men (angels?) in white robes. And their sermon is one we still need to hear.

Today’s worship service will be live-streamed on our YouTube channel at 10:30 am. Join us live, or watch the video here at a later time.

Sixth Sunday in Easter

As we make the transition from the season of Easter to Pentecost Sunday we hear today the first hints of Jesus’s promise of the Holy Spirit. But there’s no tongues of flame or loud rushing winds here. Quite the opposite. Just an advocate who comes alongside us with hardly a sound at all. And yet, perhaps these words about the Spirit are among the most powerful we could ever want to hear. Join us as we listen in to Jesus trying to comfort his soon to be orphaned disciples (and us).

Fifth Sunday of Easter

“I am the way, and the truth, and the life.” If there was a list of Jesus’s greatest hits, this verse would certainly be on it. It’s one of those statements that tugs at our spirits on such a deep level. And yet the disciples, like us, struggle to fully grasp it. And so we return with Jesus today to that upper room on that night in which he was betrayed. And there to try, once again, to plumb the depths of this hauntingly good news.

Fourth Sunday of Easter

Jesus the Good Shepherd. Perhaps the most comforting Biblical image of them all. And not without reason. But there’s an edginess to this image we don’t often recognize. And turns out its a quality we can’t do without. At least if we want a vital and living faith. Join us as we listen for the voice of our Shepherd Lord leading us in some strange but right paths for his name’s sake.

Third Sunday of Easter

“Life is a highway” sang Canadian musician Tom Cochrane. Sometimes a highway though joy; often a highway clouded by struggles and confusion. And too often its a highway we travel alone…or so it seems. Our gospel today is about a road trip where two lonely travellers find themselves in the company of a stranger who has good news to share. Good news for us too about the roads which we frequently find ourselves travelling.

Holy Hilarity Sunday

This Sunday we celebrate Holy Hilarity Sunday (technically the Second Sunday of Easter). We’ll share some jokes and play a little game during the service. If you have a church friendly joke to share bring it along and we’ll pass you the mic.

Today’s worship service will be live-streamed on our YouTube channel at 10:30 am. Join us live, or watch the video here at a later time.

Easter Sunday

It’s Easter Sunday! Christ is risen! He is risen indeed. Alleluia! It’s time to end our Lenten fast…whatever that might have looked like for you. But while we talk about what’s ending, Jesus talks about what’s beginning. Maybe not a bad conversation to have in a graveyard.

Also, today we will begin with a breakfast at 8:30 am including some hot egg dishes, home made cinnamon buns, and other treats. And then at 10:30 am we pump up the joy with an Easter service and a shout or two of “Christ is Risen!”

Palm Sunday

As human beings we like either/or propositions. Black and white resolutions. Which means that this Sunday maybe can cause us some consternation. Is it Palm Sunday or Passion Sunday? Well, the church in its wisdom says its both/and. Because that’s how life is lived out isn’t it? So join us as we explore what God has to say to us in the midst of the messiness of our both/and life.

Fifth Sunday in Lent

Our gospel reading today is the wonderful story of the raising of Lazarus. Where Jesus proclaims those powerful words, “I am the resurrection and the life?” So which of those do we believe in the most? The resurrection or the life? And whats the difference anyway? Our sermon today tackles that question. And our choir sings a classic spiritual that will get your “toe bones” tapping.
