Praise Appeal Sunday

We’ve heard life with God described in many ways. As a walk of faith. As a journey with Jesus. As resting in God’s love. But a wrestling match? Maybe that closer to the truth than we would care to admit sometimes. On this Sunday that we give thanks for and support the ministry of our National Church we explore this unconventional metaphor and the blessing it promises.

Fourth Sunday in the Season of Creation

What do you think it means to be content? I’m sure there are many answers to that question. Jesus tells us a story today that might make us re-think some of those answers. And he points to a vision of contentment that can be unsettling. At least for us, at first blush. But look a little closer and it may come into fuller view. And lead us into a deeper joy.

Third Sunday in the Season of Creation

So what do a shady businessman, a dishonest manager, and a fortune made from ill-gotten gains have to do with being good stewards of creation? It’s not a joke! But maybe it’s a way of understanding one of Jesus’s most perplexing parables. Come and see.

Second Sunday in the Season of Creation

Who among us hasn’t lost something? Or known the stress of frantically searching for it? And the joy and relief of finding it again? We all have. But what about when the thing thats become lost is a part of God’s creation? Do we have the same enthusiasm for that kind of search? And if not, why not? Today we hear some lovely and surprisingly subversive parables of Jesus about losing and finding. And listening to what he has to say just might be a matter of life and death.

Also, today in Rally Sunday! Following the service we will gather for lunch together. Sandwiches and salads will be provided and we’ll have an ice cream bar too. Then to cap off the day we’ll have a little fun with “Edible Treat Bingo” to raffle off some delectable treats contributed by our own members.

First Sunday in Season of Creation

“Vocation” is a word we’ve often heard. It’s really just another word for calling. Which is itself another word for work. And so today we will hear a member of our congregation speak about the relationship between their work and their faith. And then we’ll hear about our calling to listen to the voice of creation on this first Sunday in the Season of Creation. So…lets get to work!

Twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time

Rewards are a pretty common perk in the marketplace these days. Reward points. Reward miles. But what are the real rewards we seek in life? Recognition? Affirmation? Personal advantage? Jesus has a few suggestions that might not make any popular top ten list. So listen in today as he stirs up the conversation at a party in Jerusalem.

Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time

Sabbath. A great idea. We all believe in it. But what is it all about? Or more to the point, who is it all about? That turns out to be a more complicated question than we might care to admit, especially for those of us who care about sabbath-keeping. Let’s listen in to our readings on this 21st Sunday on Ordinary Time for what they have to say.

Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time

In a world like ours, divided so badly by many forces, you’d think the last thing Jesus would be promising is more division. But thats exactly what he promises in our gospel today. So what about all his talk of peace in so many other parts of the scriptures? Maybe there’s more to God’s peace than we so often think.
