We all know that Advent is a time to prepare. There’s no end to the voices around us these days reminding us of that. But the voice in our gospel reading today may be the strangest. On this first Sunday of the new church year Jesus’s words in our gospel reading today have more to say about endings than beginnings. Today we celebrate Christ the King. We have a special guest with us this week. Carolyn Klaassen is an Indigenous theologian and leader here in the BC Synod. She grew up Lutheran, and in the recent years has began to discover her Ojibway roots. Carolyn will share her story with us. She will also join in leading worship, introducing traditional Indigenous elements to our liturgy.

What is a saint? “Saint” is just another name for a baptized child of God. If you’ve been baptized, you’re a saint! You don’t have to do anything to earn the name or prove you deserve it. So today we give thanks for God’s promise in baptism that makes us saints, and for all those saints we have known and loved and who now rest in God’s loving an eternal care. And we hear a story about what that eternal and loving care means.
