This week is another installment of what is called the bread of life discourse – a five week time when the gospel readings are from the sixth chapter of John, and all about bread. Two weeks ago Jesus fed a huge crowd with five loaves and two fish. And now he’s teaching more about bread.

What do we mean when we say Jesus is the bread of life? What does it mean to those who don’t know where their next meal will come from, and when? What does it mean to those who do not know what hunger feels like?
