The Holy Trinity Sunday

So, Holy Trinity Sunday. The only special day in the church calendar that celebrates a theological doctrine. God as one and yet three, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Maybe makes us wonder if those who made up the calendar were just trying to keep seminary professors happy. Or maybe there’s more to this Holy Trinity talk than meets the eye, or the ear. Come along and join the dance!

Ascension of Our Lord

Heads up!… That’s a bad Ascension Day joke. A really bad Ascension Day joke. But this day itself is no joke, as obscure as it might be to most Christians. So what can it mean for us today that Jesus ascended to the Father? Maybe the answer lies, once again, with those slow-witted disciples. Just what do they have to teach us this time?

GSLC Garage Sale

Hello everyone, this is just a reminder that tomorrow we will be hosting our Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Garage Sale! It will be taking place from 9 am to 3 pm tomorrow, May 28.

Sixth Sunday in Easter

“Give peace a chance.” That anthemic protest chant of the late 60’s might be the cry of our hearts these days with the multiple crises and conflicts stressing our world. But which peace is it exactly that we need to give a chance? Today we return to the night in which our Lord Jesus was betrayed to hear him weigh in on that question.

Fifth Sunday in Easter

Ever notice how sometimes the simplest things in life can also be the hardest? “Love one another,” Jesus tells us today. Easy for him to say. Hard for us to follow. But maybe we can find some help in the bizarre story of the disciple Peter and a vision of the strangest buffet ever. Let’s see what’s cooking in Joppa.

Fourth Sunday in Easter

Happy Mother’s Day to all deserving moms! This is also Good Shepherd Sunday. No real connection there other than the fact that shepherds are usually symbols of motherly comfort. But today they also point us to a truth that might not feel all that comforting, at least at first. Green and slightly unsettling pastures await!

Third Sunday in Easter

If there’s one thing Jesus never misses an opportunity to do in the Bible its eat. Eat with whoever will share a table with him. Our gospel today is another story of a meal with Jesus. A breakfast cook-out on the beach. Featuring his favourite menu. But its the conversation that he serves up today that’s as baffling as it is inspiring. Join us for a different kind of Easter breakfast.

Holy Hilarity Sunday

Why did the M&M go to school? It wanted to be a Smartie. OK, so I’m no comedian. But this Sunday get to celebrate with a bit of humour and frivolity (and hopefully some better jokes). Its “Holy Hilarity” Sunday a tradition that goes back millenia and which we keep on this Second Sunday in Easter. So come along and enjoy some fun with your gospel this morning.

Easter Sunday

Christ is risen! Alleluia! Despite our doubts. Against all odds. In the face of all evidence to the contrary. Christ is risen indeed! And we celebrate. We celebrate that life begins now and never ends. A Blessed Easter to all!
