Today we enter into worship with shouts of Hosanna on our lips and leave with Jesus’s dying words ringing in our ears. It’s the beginning of Holy Week. A week that leads us through pain, struggle, and sacrifice to an indescribable joy. Who will we be at the end of it all? The journey starts now.

We are holding a special mid-week healing service this Wednesday, April 6 at 7 pm in place of our usual Holden Evening Prayer. 

This service will be available both in-person and online following our current protocols. There will be an opportunity for individual and confidential prayer for both in-person and online participants. For those attending in-person we will not be using the laying on of hands or anointing but, as noted, prayer will be offered. The service will also be live-streamed on our YouTube channel as always, or found here at a later time.

We can probably all think of people we would consider prophets. And likely what they all have in common is the ability to use words in powerful and stirring ways. But can a prophet be a prophet without saying a word? There’s one in our gospel reading this morning. Let’s travel to Bethany and SEE what this prophet has to say.

During our reflection time we are viewing videos from leading female Christian writers and commentators. You can attend in-person (regular Covid protocols in effect) or connect to the livestream the way you usually connect for a Sunday morning service.

The Prodigal Son. Perhaps the most famous parable Jesus ever told. And we hear it in our gospel reading today. Thing is though, Jesus didn’t give it that title. The church did. So have we mislabelled it? Today we take a second look at a story we thought we all knew.

“Why?” It’s the age old question of humanity. Especially when it comes to understanding God’s ways in the world. Or more accurately, God’s inaction on our prayers and pleas. So what do we do when answers are hard to come by? “Go do some gardening,” Jesus tells us today as we hear him addressing some confused and frustrated followers.
