First Sunday in Advent

We begin a new church year where we usually do each Advent, at the end of our featured gospel. In this case thats Mark where we receive a horticulture lesson from Jesus that sets our spiritual agenda for Advent.

Today’s worship service will be live-streamed on our YouTube channel at 10:30 am. Join us live, or watch the video here at a later time.

Christ the King

What is the main criteria for faithfulness? True belief? Moral purity? Exemplary church attendance? In our gospel for this Christ the King Sunday we explore Matthew’s parable of the last judgement. Can there be good news lurking in these sobering words?

Today’s worship service will be live-streamed on our YouTube channel at 10:30 am. Join us live, or watch the video here at a later time.

Thirty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

Bob Dylan once sang, “You’re gonna have to serve somebody.” So true. There are masters in this world that want to hold us in fear. And masters that invite us into an unexpected joy. Our parable today challenges us to ask ourselves, “Which master do we hear the loudest?”

Today’s worship service will be both live-streamed and in person at 10:30 am.

Healing Service – The Thirty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time

We gather for a healing service this morning. On a day when our gospel urges us to be prepared for the unexpected. Maybe nothing in life is more unexpected than illness, trauma, or tragedy. So we pray with our psalmist, “O Lord, make haste to help me!” And we seek the assurance of God’s promise of abundant life.

All Saints Sunday

Today we remember and give thanks the saints who have touched our lives. We welcome some new members into our family of saints here at Good Shepherd. And we reflect on the famous beatitudes of Jesus which actually have something to teach us about saints as well. A true celebration of all saints!

Today’s worship service will be live-streamed on our YouTube channel at 10:30 am. Join us live, or watch the video here at a later time.

Reformation Sunday – The Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Today we celebrate Reformation Sunday with our Anglican siblings from St. Laurence in Coquitlam. Which makes it a true celebration of the reforming power of the Holy Spirit. What once was divided that the gospel may be heard, is being healed in obedience to that same gospel. Praise God! And we also hear from our youth who will share with us about this past summer’s CLAY Gathering.

Today’s worship service will be live-streamed on our YouTube channel at 10:30 am. Join us live, or watch the video here at a later time.

The Twenty-Ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time

“Is it lawful to pay taxes?“ Maybe that’s one question we wish Jesus had answered more straightforwardly. But then again, he was avoiding a trap set by his opponents. Or was he? Maybe the “ambiguity” of Jesus’s answer has more to teach us about faithfulness than we realize.

Praise Appeal Sunday – The Twenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time

On this Sunday that we acknowledge World Food Day, lift up the ELCIC Praise Appeal, celebrate our Good Shepherd Women’s Group, we also welcome back our former intern Elina Singh to lead us in worship. And together we seek God’s peace in the midst of a world burning with the fever of war, violence, and crisis. Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

Today’s worship service will be live-streamed on our YouTube channel at 10:30 am. Join us live, or watch the video here at a later time.

Thanksgiving Sunday – The Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

What is the root of gratitude? We often hear that it is counting our blessings. Which is a pretty good spiritual discipline actually. But biblically, that root lies even deeper. As we learn from a thankful outcast and misfit in our gospel this morning.

Today’s worship service will be live-streamed on our YouTube channel at 10:30 am. Join us live, or watch the video here at a later time.

Fifth Sunday in the Season of Creation

Authority has always been an issue. Who gets it? Where does it come from? When does it need to be challenged? And, as our gospel asks today, what is it for? As we reflect on our place in creation as humans, maybe that’s the most important question to ask.

Today’s worship service will be live-streamed on our YouTube channel at 10:30 am. Join us live, or watch the video here at a later time.
